Surfing the Word

My career as a web developer has me on a computer a minimum of 8 hours daily. Because of this, most of my time is organized and managed by my computer. I have found that many areas of my life can be enhanced by the use of computers. The one focused on here is Bible study. Here is a brief review of some free online and offline tools for use in your personal Bible study. Let’s start with some online resources.

There are many places on the web you can get the Bible online. Some are great and others are difficult to use or don’t provide many tools. Here are my top choices:

Crosswalk
http://bible.crosswalk.com]
Crosswalk has many great tools and with 20+ versions of the Bible you are bound to find what you are looking for. Crosswalk also has Online Study Bible, Bible in a year, interlinear Bible, parallel Bible, commentaries, concordances, dictionaries, encyclopaedias, lexicons, and history to aid you in your study.

Bible Gateway
[http://www.biblegateway.com]
Bible Gateway also boasts almost 20 versions of the Bible and is very easy to use. The Bible Gateway is about to re-launch their service with many new features including doing topical studies and more Bibles and multilingual support. Bible Gateway is my favourite online tool.

Offline options are also available. E-Sword is a free application you can download and run on your computer. E-Sword is a complete Bible study software including multiple Bible versions, commentaries, dictionaries, encyclopaedias, maps etc. E-Sword is available for Windows and can be downloaded at www.e-sword.com.
